The Theme

The study project has adapted ‘enlightening’ as its theme, this relates to the new direction of views on the field of electrical engineering. It is also a reference to the age of enlightenment, a period between the years 1700 and 1800, in which many new visions and ways of thinking where established based on freedom and mutual respect. During the period the United States acquired their independence and created their constitution. The current political and justice systems also originate from the era making it a very fundamental period for the United States.

In a current-day perspective it could be said that the American industry would benefit greatly from some enlightenment. To elaborate; The American High-tech industry is experiencing increasing competition from the Asian market, which enjoy relatively low production cost and an increasing global market share. Most production has already made the transition to these new markets, but research and development is also making this transition. To ensure the United States maintains a leadership position in the High-tech market more innovation and willingness to adapt will be essential. To summarize, the opportunity for further enlightenment is absolutely present!
